Volunteer & Service Opportunities

The WV Caring Volunteer Program is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team. Volunteers were responsible for founding WV Caring and they remain the cornerstones even today. When indicated and agreed upon by the patient and family, a trained volunteer is assigned to provide respite care and support. However, the nature of WV Caring’s services means we are always looking for individuals with varying personalities, talents and time.

Office Volunteers
Provide administrative support to Hospice staff in our offices such as filing, computer input, assembling information packets, telephone support and reception work.

Resale Shop Volunteers
Support WV Caring’s Resale Shops in providing a wide array of services such as cashier, pricing, sorting, stocking and store upkeep.

Fundraising/Community Outreach/Speakers Bureau Volunteers
Assist with community programs and events that raise funds and community awareness of WV Caring Corporation such as health fairs, speaking engagements, golf tournaments, Light Up A Life, Camp Nabe, and Walk For Hospice. Also assist with presenting information in regards to WV Caring Corporation to community members.

Patient/Family Support Volunteers
Provide companionship and support to WV Caring patients and families in their own homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. Duties may include respite care, reading to the patient, running errands, and light housework.

Bereavement Volunteers
Provide companionship and support to people who are suffering any type of grief (not limited to those who have lost a loved one). Duties may include home visits, and telephone calls.

Music Volunteers
Provide musical companionship and support to patients and families by singing or playing a musical instrument in the home or a home-like setting.

Activity Volunteers
Provide assistance to patients in nursing and assisted living facilities with activities provided monthly by WV Caring Outreach Team (i.e., play games, design crafts, afternoon tea, and reading).

Maintenance/Construction Volunteers

Bereavement Camp – Camp Caring

Formerly Camp Nabe

Since 1996, WV Caring Corporation has held a bereavement to support children and teens in West Virginia who have lost a loved one and provides the child an opportunity to spend a day with other children who have also experienced loss. This one day camp is free of charge and is open to any child age 6 – 14.

Help for the Whole Family

The pain of a death affects the whole family. As adults, we often are at a loss at both how to help the child we love who is hurting, and how to take time to heal ourselves.

WV Caring has added grief workshops for the surviving adults in the child’s life. These sessions will run at the same time as the children’s camp. The purpose is that each family member is individually strengthened and supported so that the entire family can move forward together on their journey of grief to a place of new normal.

If you have questions, would like more information on camp, call Kadie Baker, Camp Director with WV Caring at 1-304.599.4200 or email her at kbaker@wvcaring.org
